Patch Notes - 2025.50.00

Game Update Highlights

Edge of Eternities – Available July 29!

  • Find the magic between the stars when you blast into Magic’s first space opera set, where power is at your fingertips and the horizon is only the beginning.
  • Out-of-this-world fantasy meets daring adventure with four new mechanics capturing the experience of space travel.

Gameplay

  • All Legendary spacecraft and vehicles with defined power and toughness are eligible Commanders.
  • There are a variety of improvements to the autostops for the last chapter of creature sagas, giving you priority before they’re sacrificed.
  • More flicker abilities you’re likely to cast on your own stuff now cold highlights for tokens you control, on account of instead of flickering them this just kills them (and you don’t even get a death trigger…)
  • Cards that put a land from your hand onto the battlefield have had the extra confirm step removed in many cases.
    • For people playing gates decks this is expected to save you up to seconds per match.
    • Like as much as four seconds! But also a lot less clicking.
  • Omniscience and multi-facet cards now surface more of the casting options.
  • The following lands are now legal in Alchemy as a part of Y25-EOE:
    • Dragonskull Summit, Drowned Catacomb, Glacial Fortress, Rootbound Crag, Sunpetal Grove, Clifftop Retreat, Hinterland Harbor, Isolated Chapel, Sulfur Falls, and Woodland Cemetery.

General

  • When Deck Sales are available, they’ll now communicate three prices:
    • Wildcard Value: The price of the deck based on the rarity of the cards in the deck.
    • Deck Price: The price at which the deck is being sold.
    • Proration Price: The price of the deck after proration.
  • Spark Rank will now use the Standard format instead of using the Alchemy format.
  • Magic: The Gathering Foundations packs are now the pack rewards in the New Player Experience.

Bug Fixes

General

  • Fixed an issue when adding a companion to your deck; two companion card slots appeared in the player's sideboard.

Gameplay

  • Fixed an issue with Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief incorrectly copying mutate spells in which it was not a legal target.
    • Finally, a thief that cares about legality.
  • Lightwheel Enhancements will now cast correctly from the Graveyard when at Max Speed.
  • Several Alchemy cards received oracle updates to match current templating.
  • Kaya, Spirits' Justice and token copies of Ertha Jo had an issue caused by cancelling Ertha Jo’s triggered ability midway through targeting after targeting the token Ertha Jo with Kaya’s -2.
    • No one ever actually did this, we found it with internal QA tools, so now you’re safe to make what seems to be a pretty bad play with a token copy of Ertha Jo and then cancel in the middle or realizing how you probably shouldn’t do this.
  • Mirage Mirror was keeping the “unlock” ability of rooms it had previously copied.
    • It didn’t do anything, but you WERE allowed to waste mana. So I guess sorry if you love wasting mana, because now you can’t.
  • Speaking of Rooms, Taigam Master Opportunist and rooms were just super broken.
    • Like the copies it made didn’t make a token you could interact with, and the copy in exile couldn’t be cast.
    • Taigam has overcome his antipathy toward rooms and is now comfortable inside.
  • A handful of Pioneer Masters (PIO) cards were missing localization for their prompts. These translations have been added.
  • Druid of the Emerald Grove got an oracle update to address the fact that if you somehow had a roll of 0 or lower it never explicitly resolved which, oops.
    • This didn’t work with the original formatting code we had for die roll cards, but it’s been updated to present correctly.
  • Rooms now have appropriately shaped and scaled indestructible VFX.
    • Rooms sure do show up here a lot, huh?
  • Switching between borderless or depth art and the View Simplified toggle on some cards was making the hangers flicker, and in investigating why that was happening we found an underlying issue with how we cache hangers and fixed that.
